Following the example of the round table discussion on the first decisive topic, the changing cities, the Scientific Committee was asked to analyse possible scenarios of change in the light of the concept of ‘wellbeing’, in order to enable the Region to act in a preventive manner in the management of water resources, identifying strategies capable of mitigating risks and, at the same time, intercepting available national and European funds.
Trends
Analysing the current relationship between mankind and the use of water and hypothesising possible future developments, six trends in particular emerged around which the work of the Scientific Committee was structured:
- The continuing problems of drought. Climate change has caused in recent years and will continue to cause in the coming serious problems of land drying out, which particularly affect agriculture and some industrial activities.
- The progressive de-infrastructurisation of the national and regional territory. Italy, and Tuscany too, has water infrastructures that are largely considered obsolete and do not respond to the new needs of the territory. The sewerage and aqueduct networks, for example, are the main cause of wastage of water resources.
- The lack of synchronisation
